Every line is flagged Active, NRND or EOL before anything is ordered, and purchasing goes through authorised and franchised distribution with incoming inspection aligned to AS5553 / AS6081 counterfeit-avoidance practice. Component lead time can add 12–26 weeks on long-lead semiconductors, and no part is ever substituted without your written approval.
THE PURCHASING SEQUENCE
Nothing is bought until the risk report has been read and the alternates have been approved in writing. That order is deliberate: it is cheaper to argue about a part number than about a reworked batch.

WHERE THE PARTS COME FROM
The grey market is not a moral question, it is a documentation question: a part bought from an unauthorised broker arrives without a traceable chain, and no incoming inspection can reconstruct one. So the default is authorised and franchised distribution, and any exception is your decision, not ours.
LIFECYCLE AND LEAD TIME, STATED PLAINLY
Obsolescence is the normal condition of this industry, not an exception. Roughly 750,000 electronic components went obsolete in 2022 and more than 470,000 reached end of life in 2023, so the useful question is not whether your BOM will lose a part but what the plan is when it does.

Datasheet-level parameter comparison, approved-vendor-list parts preferred, and your written approval before anything is bought. Automatic substitution is not available, by rule.
Exposure time on the floor tracked against the MSL grade of each moisture-sensitive part, with a bake before use when the limit is exceeded.
RoHS 3 declarations and test reports, REACH SVHC statements and an annual CMRT. These are declarations and reports, not certificates, and they are supplied as such.
A last-time-buy at the end of a product's life, sized against your remaining production forecast, with a second-source route qualified alongside it.
Receipt, counting and reconciliation of consigned parts, with the industry-standard 5–10% attrition allowance on SMT passives agreed up front rather than argued about at the end.
THE STEP THAT RUINS A BATCH
A counterfeit part fails its own joint. A moisture-soaked part fails the whole assembly at reflow, when trapped water flashes to steam inside the package and cracks the body from the inside. That is why MSL control sits here, next to purchasing, and not in a footnote.
PACKAGING AND DOCUMENTS
Moisture-barrier bag with desiccant and a humidity indicator card, so the condition of the parts on arrival is visible before the bag is opened rather than assumed.
Static-dissipative bags and ESD tote boxes for storage and line-side movement, matching the handling requirement of the parts inside them.
Parts kitted in the format the placement machine consumes, with surplus returned in the same format so your own stock records stay reconcilable.
RoHS 3 declaration and test reports, REACH SVHC statement, annual CMRT and lot-level traceability records, issued per shipment on request.
